worse than the ones I had found in Sweden and in the Ticino,
in the fallout areas of the Chernobyl radioactive cloud.

I started with a systematic research project around the
Gösgen nuclear power plant and detected terribly crippled
insects with short legs, disturbed feelers, or wings of
uneven lengths. I made watercolor sketches of the insects
I had collected in my studio.
I was shocked not only the severity of the morphological
disturbances in the insects and plants I found, but also
by their prevalence. I became more and more skeptical about
scientific assertions concerning the innocuousness of nuclear
power plants. I believed that more thorough research was
called for in this region, which has five nuclear power
plants as well as the nuclear research plants Gösgen,
Beznau I |
