wings or black growths sticking out of their eyes. Their deformities almost made me sick. Many of the plants I studied were not green but dark red, or the color of their flowers had changed. In my hotel room I studied the leaf bugs with my binocular microscope and made as many watercolor sketches as possible to document my findings. I was also struck by the despair of the local people I met there because they could no longer eat what was growing in their gardens. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ]
