Chernobyl

Chernobyl
In 1990 I traveled with the anti-nuclear group Strom ohne Atom (Electricity without atomic power) to the Ukraine. The misery of the people there made a great impression upon me. At the port to the south of the 30-kilometer exclusion zone, I collected firebugs, Pyrrhocoris apterus. In Pripjat, the city most hit by the fallout and as silent as death itself, we were allowed to stay for only 10 minutes because of the high level of radioactive contamination. There I found only a very few true bugs, all of them disturbed.
